|

ASU’s book arts guild, A Buncha Book Artists, presents Bookish:

Bookish is coming up this September to Harry Wood Gallery and we’re accepting submissions from members starting August 1! This year we’re featuring guest artists Bruce Licher of Independent Project Press – who has worked with clients like REM and Shepard Fairey – as well as the UA Book Arts Program. Don’t miss the opportunity to show work among these amazing artists! Feel free to share our event on social media or with your local community. We accept work of all skill levels. Become a member by paying dues online at abunchabookartists.com!

More about ABBA:

We live in an evolving digital world. With the increasing amount of online news, ebooks, and virtual reality technology, it would seem that printing and bookmaking are simply becoming obsolete, that people are transitioning to digital lifestyles, that humans no longer need these archaic art forms. But here at ABBA, we prove otherwise. We are A Buncha Book Artists (ABBA), a coalition of interdisciplinary contributors to the contemporary book art movement. As a student-run organization at Arizona State University, we focus on making, exhibiting, and promoting artists’ books, as well as educating the public about the book as an art form. We welcome all experience levels, and our members include undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and independent artists.

We as the artists control all decision making from conception to completion. Our bookmaking and printmaking processes range from traditional methods, such as handset type, linocut, screen printing, lithography, and intaglio to more innovative forms of digital printing technologies, such as polymer printing. The text used in our books include original poetry and prose, appropriated found text, and letterforms as graphics. We experiment with various binding structures: some are traditional Eastern accordion styles, 3rd century Ethiopian exposed Coptic stitch, and the Western codex, while others entirely new and experimental, designed to carry the specific content of the individual books.

Send us an email, visit the payment page, & check out our photos! Anyone can be a part of ABBA.
