Vinyl Signage at Momentum Studios & More

Creating custom vinyl signage is easier than you’d think: from small stickers to 25-foot and larger pieces, I use my Cricut Silhouette with vector design software to quickly produce designs for clients. Projects have included:

  • Glass door signage for Momentum Studios
  • Painted metal door signage for Momentum Studios
  • Truck signage for Country Garden Farms
  • “Vinyl Frontier,” an installation made with Adam Montoya and Bill Jamison
  • Precise layered paper cutouts for “Concinnity,” an artist book
  • Iron oxide waterslide decals for ceramics (collaboration with Bill Jamison)
  • Vinyl used as a glaze resist for wheelthrown functional pottery

Bill Jamison first introduced me to the Silhouette family of drag knife cutters in 2012, and since then, the Cameo has served us well. The optical registration tool takes a little finesse but can produce amazing results, especially for making custom ceramics decals in conjunction with our ancient iron-based laser printer. The variety of results that are possible with custom vinyl stickers can be seen in Bill’s portfolio of BFA work made with layered colored slips. The Roll Feeder tool for the Silhouette Cameo also made possible the giant 25′ sign for the side of Country Garden Farms’ box truck, used as a mobile billboard. More past projects have included custom fabric applique cutouts, very precise layered colored paper, and 8′ x 88′ custom installations inside a shipping container for a mobile gallery: my imagination really has been the only limit on using this versatile tool.
