Gold Mint Valley to Reed Lakes Backpacking

|

For my husband Bill‘s birthday, we backpacked from the Gold Mint valley trail to Reed Lakes in Hatcher Pass over a hanging valley: we had spectacular bluebird weather, a super cute sendoff by my sister and 1- and 3-year old nieces, and tons of fun watching our pup Ruby zoom around like a wild thing through the alpine meadows. The basic trip we followed is available here at Alaska Hike Search. The only thing we might have changed was perhaps one more day to explore Bomber Glacier or Snowbird Mine: the upper hanging valley where we camped (full of wildflowers and gurgling streams) would have made a great base camp for another day of exploration. The blueberries were just beginning to ripen, so I’m sure we’ll be back for some more leisurely berry picking soon.
