The hardworking folks over at Sunderland Ranch commissioned a logo that could stand up their brand of “Rustic & Relaxing: Your Mountain Getaway…Get Out and Ride.” RS is the ranch’s actual cattle brand, and the typefaces chosen (Stymie family) include sturdy slab serifs. Clean, graphic elk antlers and the silhouette of Lazy Mountain and Matanuska Peak frame the type lockup in this combination logotype and logomark.

About the Sunderlands:
“We are a third-generation homesteading and ranch family, born and raised on the foothills of Lazy Mountain in Palmer, Alaska.”
In 1931, Morris Fuller Benton created the Stymie typeface for the American Type Founders (ATF). Stymie is a reworking of a slab serif type that was popular in Europe at that time, Memphis. For the past one hundred fifty years, slab serif types (sometimes called Egyptian or Egyptienne-style faces) have been a popular choice for headline text in newspapers, magazines, and advertising.
