Spenard Chamber of Commerce Website Design

Supporting Business Advocacy in the Heart of Anchorage

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of John Weddleton of BOSCO’S in Spenard, I built a Squarespace website to serve the Spenard Chamber of Commerce as a repository for information and support their work advocating for businesses in this unique Anchorage district.

The mission of the Spenard Chamber of Commerce is to cultivate Spenard’s status as Anchorage’s vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment district with an abundant variety of successful independent businesses in a safe and fun environment.

Using HTML files from a past hand-coded website, I was able to set up a mobile-first, easy to navigate site with typography and images that share a little of Spenard’s weirdness and will be easily edited by current and future members of the Chamber. While WordPress can be a bit more lightweight and faster to load, especially here in Alaska where data availability varies, I recommended Squarespace for this project for its ease of maintenance: the volunteers don’t need to worry about manual updates or security patches. Donors can contribute to Chamber funds through an easy PayPal link, keeping their online presence and administrative tasks streamlined.
