For this year’s local gardening, food, art and music festival, I designed two posters featuring chipper chickadees and a Scandinavian-inspired mandala of garden tools, food, music notes, art supplies and more. Since we’re deep in January’s cold, short days at the moment, the chickadees outside are great symbols of year-round cameraderie and good cheer, chirping even on the chilliest days as they zoom around searching for food. A recent trip to fabric shops in San Francisco and Tokyo also inspired the color choices on this graphic. For the round, mandala design, I was inspired by the many moving parts and perspectives that make community events possible: from delicious produce to decadent fair treats to art and craft vendors and garden experts, the PMGAF encompasses many of the interests that make Palmer a quaint place to live.
