day 151: knitting 101
These knitted washcloths are made from 100% cotton worsted weight yarn (mystery brand). My mom, aunts, and grandmothers all knitted or crocheted a version of these dishcloths or washcloths: they’ve been a ubiquitous part of my home forever. The pattern is perfect for beginners, too!
Supplies:
One ball of cotton yarn
Size US 6 or 7 knitting needles
Small crochet hook (size C, D or E)
Instructions:
Cast on 4 stitches.
Row 1: Knit 4.
Row 2: Knit 2, yarn over, knit across the row.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 44 stitches.
Row 3: Knit 1, knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together, knit to the end of the row.
Repeat Row 3 until you have 4 stitches left on the needle.
Bind off to last stitch.
Crochet a chain of 14-20 stitches (per your preference) and loop back to the corner of the cloth.
Weave in ends.
