sneak preview: grand canyon quilt
Here’s a preview of an upcoming show with TechShop’s artists in residence, May 5-13 at Vision Gallery, 10 E Chicago St, Chandler, AZ. The show reception is Thursday, May 5 from 6-8: hope to see you there!
Vision Gallery’s hours are Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 10am-4pm: contact them at 480.782.2695 for more information about their other programs.
This piece will be a 100×100″ (queen size) map of the eastern section of the Grand Canyon. Color values are based on an algorithm run on a geological map of the region, and the quilting design is another algorithm run on the topographic contours from that map. This piece was designed in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop with special thanks to John Wundes for his amazing JS to AI script library available here.
I’ll use TechShop Chandler’s HQ18 Avante CNC long arm quilter to complete the piece. Textiles include recycled and new cotton, linen and denim; cotton batting; and contrasting cotton quilting thread.
Photos of the final piece to come on May 4 after installation!
