Matanuska Colony Traveling Trunk museum exhibit


This traveling trunk exhibit box is custom made for the Palmer Museum of History and Art to feature Matanuska Colony artifacts. Schools and home school families will be able to check out the 18x18x24″ Baltic birch plywood trunk, filled with activities and objects from colony life.

The images engraved into the box are from the Museum’s collection:

  • The original map and assignments of families to their homesteads in the Matanuska Valley
  • An aerial photograph of the colonists’ tents in the Palmer community center
  • Teachers and students at the original schoolhouse – a train car!
  • Colony kids
